About FLETC

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) is a Bureau of the Department of Homeland Security. The FLETC at Cheltenham, Maryland is one of five FLETC sites in the United States. The FLETC Cheltenham center was created on October 28, 2000 when Public Law 106-346 was signed into law “to establish and operate a metropolitan area law enforcement training center for the Department of Treasury, other Federal agencies, the US Capitol Police, and the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department . . . that the principal function of the center shall be firearms and vehicle operation requalification [and other continuing professional training] . . . the use of the center for training for other State and local law enforcement agencies may be provided on a space-available basis.” The FLETC at Cheltenham has identified over 18,000 Federal law enforcement officers from 70 different Federal law enforcement agencies as their primary customers.
